Emmanuel (Manheim) Friedlander was born in Kolmar, Prussia, and died in New York City.   In between, he and his family continually moved.

After Emmanuel's death on July 20, 1887, the family continued to move.  Charles went to Norfolk, Virginia, and then to Washington, DC.  His brothers also ended up in DC.

Like many older records, spelling is very inconsistant.  Friedlander appears with many spellings, including Fredlander.  On his Naturalization papers, Emmanuel actually has signed as Manheim Fredlender!

Here are the death certificates for both Emmanuel, and his wife Lena.   Lena died less than a year after her husband, on January 19, 1888. Both supply a lot of information, including their parents names.

From theses clues, and other sources, we have learned that Lena's parents were named Jacob Henry (also known as Jacob Jacobs) and Rachel Jacobs.  His father was Henry Jacobs, born about 1770 or 80.
